Why I chose childhood depression and what i learned
I chose to do my project on childhood depression because I have dealt with depression and a lot of people dear to me suffer or have suffered from depression. I was not aware of the specific strategies used within the schools to help children with depression. Teaching children to set goals and problem solve, for example, is a very effective life skill that will further improve these children's quality of life, and help them cope on a greater level. I learned a lot about the history and I found it interesting that childhood depression has only recently been acknowledged as a serious illness. Nowadays I believe there is phenomenal treatment for children with depression and what a relief. My heart breaks for these children, as life is very difficult for them. I hope that further research will improve treatment and the lives of children suffering from depression.
