Challenges within a school setting
School can be a challenge for children suffering from depression. One major symptom of childhood depression includes poor performance in school. These individuals have a difficult time concentrating, and get no pleasure out of past interests. Children may also get behind because of frequent absences.
Social Life
The social aspect of school is a very large part of every child's life. Children coping with depression have a very challenging time with social interaction. According to Barnard (N.D.), children suffering from depression have a difficult time making friends, maintaining friends, and playing with friends. Children will often isolate themselves and will have a hard time relating to others.
